Ok, for a few keen eyed observers, this tutorial popped up for just a brief stint on the site a while back, but it had some technical issues, and to be honest I didn’t love the way it started out… so now I am bringing it back out revamped and ready for action. One of the tricky parts about creating patterns is you have to think for how a design with both leave and enter your canvas. The Off-set filter does a great job of helping create free-floating patterns… but when the lines connect and continue from one side of the canvas to the other… problems can arise. So this tutorial arose from trying to make diagonal patterns that are fully scalable in the pattern overlay layer style. There are much easier ways to make diagonals for one time use… but patterns can be tricky. :D I hope this helps you to understand them a bit better.
